Dutas Capsule is a medication containing the active ingredient Dutasteride, which belongs to a class of drugs called 5-alpha reductase inhibitors. Its used to management of Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH), a non-cancerous enlargement of the prostate gland in men caused due to increased production of a stress hormone called dihydrotestosterone (DHT) in aging men. Symptoms of BPH includes urinary problems such as difficulty in passing urine, urinary incontinence , frequent urination at night. Dutasteride works by blocking an enzyme (5-alpha reductase) that converts testosterone into dihydrotestosterone (DHT), the hormone responsible for prostate growth. This helps to shrink the prostate and relieve urinary symptoms.
