AB Phylline N Tablet is used to treat and prevent asthma, symptoms of chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder, bronchitis, and complications of pulmonary cystic fibrosis. It helps relax the muscles of the air passages, thereby making it easier to breathe. AB Phylline N Tablet is taken with or without food in a dose and duration as advised by the doctor. The dose you are given will depend on your condition and how you respond to the medicine. You should keep taking this medicine for as long as your doctor recommends. If you stop treatment too early your symptoms may come back and your condition may worsen. Let your healthcare team know about all other medications you are taking as some may affect, or be affected by this medicine.

AB Phylline N Tablet is a combination of two medicines: Acebrophylline and Acetylcysteine. Acebrophylline is a mucolytic and bronchodilator. It works by relaxing the muscles of the airways and also thins and loosens mucus, making it easier to breathe. Acetylcysteine is a mucolytic medication. It thins and loosens mucus (phlegm), making it easier to cough out.

⚠️ Side Effects

Common (usually mild):

  • GI: nausea, vomiting, heartburn, abdominal discomfort, diarrhea
  • CNS: dizziness, drowsiness, headache
  • Skin: rash, nasal inflammation

Rare but serious: bronchospasm (mainly due to NAC), severe skin reactions like Stevens–Johnson syndrome — seek immediate medical help if symptoms develop


⚠️ Precautions & Contraindications

  • Not recommended for children <14–18 years 
  • Avoid in patients with serious heart rhythm disturbances, hemodynamic instability, recent heart attack, hypotension, or renal/liver impairment
  • Use cautiously in pregnancy/lactation — only if prescribed; avoid alcohol and smoking to optimize effect
  • Can interact with many drugs like diuretics, antibiotics, corticosteroids, anti-arrhythmics — consult your doctor before use
  • May cause hypokalemia, especially if used with steroids, diuretics, beta₂-agonists — monitoring advised
